Before you send money home: a five-minute check

Small differences in rates and fees add up. Here is what to check every time you send.

By the OrzyneX team, October 2026

For many workers in the UAE, sending money home is the most important payment of the month. It is also one where small differences quietly add up. Two providers can show almost the same exchange rate and still deliver different amounts, because of fees, margins and timing.

Here is a five-minute check to do before every transfer.

1. Look at what arrives, not the headline rate

The number that matters is how much your family receives. A provider with a slightly better rate but a higher fee can deliver less. Always compare the final amount in the receiving currency.

2. Find the fee, and where it hides

Some providers charge a fixed fee. Others charge no fee but give a weaker exchange rate, so the cost is built into the rate. Look for the total cost, not just the fee.

3. Compare two or three options

Exchange houses, banks and apps can differ on the same day. Comparing takes a few minutes and is the easiest way to keep more of your money.

4. Check the timing

Rates move during the day and across the week. If the transfer is not urgent, a rate alert can tell you when the rate improves.

5. Keep the receipt

Save the reference number and the receipt until the money has arrived.
